At Colorology Salon, we believe continuing education is one of the most important investments we can make in our team.
Recently, we had the opportunity to travel to Fort Lauderdale for the Behind the Chair Show, where we spent several days learning from some of the most talented educators and brands in the beauty industry.
The experience was packed with education, creativity, new ideas, and plenty of inspiration that we’re excited to bring back to our salon in Boise!
Learning From Industry Leaders
Throughout the event, we attended a variety of breakaway classes provided by some incredible educators and brands.
Throughout the event, our team had the opportunity to learn from some incredible educators and brands. We attended classes with Schwarzkopf featuring Tracy Cunningham and Carly Zanoni; O&M with Amelia Jane and Kim Haberley; an Airtouch highlighting class with Danilo Bozic; as well as classes from DevaCurl, ALOXXI with Jessica Wall Innella, TRUSS, Ulta Beauty’s Vivid Color, and Color Refined with Danger Jones, Emily Chen, Tia Lambourn, and founders Alexis and David Thurston.
Each class offered something different. From blonding and color techniques to curls, vivid color, styling, business and product knowledge, we were able to explore a wide variety of areas within our industry.
One of the things we love most about events like Behind the Chair is that there is always something new to learn. No matter how long you have been behind the chair, the beauty industry is constantly evolving. Continuing education gives us the opportunity to stay inspired, refine our skills, and discover new ways to approach the services we provide.
Taking in Every Main Stage Class We Could
When we weren’t attending our individual breakaway classes, we spent our time attending as many main stage classes as possible.
The main stage education gave us the opportunity to watch talented artists demonstrate their techniques, share their experiences, and showcase the creativity that makes this industry so exciting.
It was inspiring to see so many different approaches to hair, color, styling, and education all in one place.
We came home with plenty of ideas, techniques, and inspiration to continue growing as individual stylists and as a team.
The Importance of Business Education
One of our biggest takeaways from the trip came on day three during the business classes.
Business education is something we feel can often be undervalued in the beauty industry.
As hairstylists, we spend a lot of time learning technical skills. We learn how to cut, color, style, formulate, and create beautiful hair. But building a successful and sustainable career requires more than technical ability.
The business classes really opened our eyes and gave us a different perspective on areas of the industry that are just as important as what happens behind the chair.
We are incredibly thankful for those classes and the educators who were willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Understanding business, leadership, communication, growth, and the bigger picture behind our industry is something we believe deserves more attention.
Why We Invest in Continuing Education
Education is a huge part of what we value at Colorology Salon.
We want our stylists to feel supported in their growth and to have opportunities to continue learning throughout their careers. Attending events like Behind the Chair allows us to step outside of our normal day-to-day environment and learn from educators and professionals from all over the industry.
It also gives us the opportunity to learn together.
Each of us attended different classes and walked away with different takeaways. Now, we get to bring that knowledge back to our team and continue sharing what we learned.

Bringing What We Learned Back to Boise
Our goal with continuing education is always to take what we learn and apply it to the work we do every day.
Whether it’s a new color technique, a better understanding of a product, a different approach to styling, or new ideas for growing our salon and supporting our team, we want our education to have a positive impact on the experience we provide our guests.
We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend Behind the Chair in Fort Lauderdale and for all of the brands and educators who invested their time into helping hairstylists continue to grow.
We came home feeling inspired, motivated, and excited for what’s next.
Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible—and we can’t wait to continue bringing everything we learned back to Colorology Salon!
